Description

304N stainless steel wire

304N stainless steel wire is a nitrogen-containing austenitic stainless steel wire, which belongs to the derivative type of 304 stainless steel. By adding nitrogen to 304 stainless steel, its strength, work-hardening tendency and corrosion resistance are significantly improved, while maintaining good cold formability.

  • 304N achieves strength gains by replacing some of the nickel with nitrogen, while 304 has no nitrogen or very low levels.
  • Nickel content fluctuation: the lower limit of nickel content of 304N in some standards is slightly higher than that of 304

Chemical composition and performance optimization

  • Base composition: similar to 304 stainless steel, but with the addition of nitrogen to replace some of the nickel, reducing costs and enhancing performance.
  • The role of nitrogen: nitrogen significantly improves the yield strength and tensile strength of the material, and at the same time improves the resistance to pitting corrosion and intergranular corrosion, especially in the environment containing chlorides.

Mechanical properties

Compared with ordinary 304 stainless steel, 304N has higher hardness, but the elongation and cold working performance have not been reduced, suitable for scenes requiring high strength and formability.

  • 304N VS 304L and 304H: 304N is nitrogen strengthened to avoid the limitations associated with ultra-low carbon (304L) or high carbon (304H), and has a more balanced overall performance.
  • 304N VS 316: slightly less corrosion resistant than molybdenum-containing 316, but lower cost and suitable for non-extreme corrosive environments.
Application

Chemical and energy equipment

  • Corrosive media containers

Used in the manufacture of acid and alkali storage tanks, reactor lining and piping systems, resistant to corrosion of nitric acid, sulfuric acid and other media, especially in chloride-containing environments, pitting corrosion resistance is better than ordinary 304 stainless steel. A chemical plant's hydrochloric acid evaporator is welded with 304N stainless steel wire, and the corrosion-resistant life is enhanced by 40% under the operating temperature of 120℃.

  • High-temperature and high-pressure equipment

welded heat exchangers, distillation towers and other components, long-term stable work below 500 ℃, tensile strength ≥ 550MPa, yield strength ≥ 275MPa, applicable to high-temperature processes such as oil cracking.

Food & Pharmaceutical Industry

  • Food Processing Equipment

Make conveyor belts, mixers and storage tanks, meet FDA food grade standards, resistant to frequent corrosion by acidic detergents.

Process Advantage: Cold rolled stainless steel wire can be woven into high-precision sieve mesh (pore size 0.1 ~ 2mm), used for flour, pharmaceuticals, grading and filtration.

  • Medical Devices

Used for surgical instruments (e.g. guide wires, stents) and dental orthodontic wires, excellent biocompatibility, non-toxic and resistant to corrosion during sterilization (e.g. autoclaving).
