Description
304L stainless steel is derived from 304 stainless steel. Its lower carbon content makes it more corrosion resistant than traditional 304 stainless steel, especially in welded or heat-affected areas, where it reduces the formation of chromium carbides and significantly lowers the tendency for intergranular corrosion. Its corrosion resistance falls between that of 304 and 316 stainless steel. It is suitable for use in industries such as food processing and healthcare.

Alloy Details

304L stainless steel wire is manufactured through a multi-pass drawing process combined with annealing treatment, utilizing a deformation-induced martensitic phase transformation mechanism to enhance performance. As a result, the production process can be adjusted to meet the mechanical and physical strength requirements of different wire diameter specifications as per customer needs.
Wire diameter range: From 0.05 millimeters to 6 millimeters, catering to diverse application requirements.
Surface treatment: The surface is bright and smooth, with no burrs. Electrolytic polishing or other treatments can be applied as needed to enhance surface finish. The brightness of the surface also varies depending on the cooling medium used during the drawing process, resulting in different finishes such as white bright, black bright, or matte. The specific production method is selected based on customer requirements.
Application
- For the food industry
Since 304L meets food-grade requirements, it can be used as stainless steel wire for weaving nets, such as food sieves, with different wire diameters corresponding to different mesh densities. It can also be used to make the main body of straw brushes.
- For industrial applications
304L has moderate corrosion resistance and can be used as material for logging wires, with suitable corrosion resistance for moderate corrosive environments.
Oxidizing acids and alkaline environments: 304L stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, enabling it to maintain good corrosion resistance in oxidizing acids (such as nitric acid with a concentration ≤65%) and alkaline solutions. It is suitable for acidic or alkaline formation water environments in conventional oil and gas wells.
Limited chloride ion resistance: Compared to 316 stainless steel, 304L does not contain molybdenum, resulting in weaker resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in high chloride ion environments (such as coastal areas or saline formations). However, it remains suitable for use in moderate to low chloride environments.
