Alloy Details

After annealing treatment, the crystal lattice structure of the original hard wire is rearranged to form a uniform austenitic structure, thereby transforming it into a soft, malleable wire that can be bent by hand.

Performance Characteristics

Mechanical Properties

Significantly reduced hardness, reduced tensile strength but increased elongation, with excellent flexibility and fatigue resistance.

Brinell hardness decreases from approximately 205 HB to below 170 HB

Corrosion Resistance

The low carbon content (C ≤ 0.03%) reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion in welded areas.

After annealing, a dense passivation layer forms on the surface, providing excellent resistance to acid, alkali, and chloride ion corrosion.

Surface Quality

Bright annealing (e.g., hydrogen-protected annealing) is used during the annealing process, resulting in a smooth surface free of oxide scale, suitable for subsequent coating or direct use.

Differences from ordinary hard wire

304l annealed stainless steel wire

Hardness comparison: Hard wire is hard but brittle after cold drawing and is prone to breakage; soft wire is highly malleable after annealing and is suitable for forming and processing.

Welding performance: Due to its low carbon content and annealing treatment, soft wire is not prone to cracking during welding and does not require additional heat treatment after welding.

Application

Weaving and Mesh: Used for manufacturing stainless steel mesh, filter mesh, and woven mesh, leveraging its high ductility to achieve complex weaving patterns.

Hoses and Ropes: Applied in hydraulic hoses and stainless steel wire ropes, utilizing its flexibility to withstand repeated bending.

Precision Components: Such as springs and instrument components, annealed soft wire can be cold-worked to enhance strength while maintaining corrosion resistance.

Decorative and Architectural Applications: Used in curtain wall fasteners and glass railings, combining aesthetic appeal with durability.
