Description
420 stainless steel wire, also known as SUS420J2 or 3Cr13, is a quintessential representative of martensitic stainless steel. It achieves a balance between hardness and corrosion resistance through its high carbon content (0.16%–0.40%) and chromium content (12%–14%). Mechanical Properties
- Hardness: Annealed state ≤223 HB; Quenched and tempered state reaches 50-55 HRC (maximum up to 60 HRC)
- Strength: Tensile strength ≥635 MPa (reaches 800-1000 MPa after quenching)
- Elongation: Annealed state ≥20%; Quenched state ≥10%
Corrosion Resistance
- Suitable Environments: Atmospheric conditions, fresh water, weak acids/alkalis (e.g., perspiration, soapy water)
- Limitations: Not resistant to salt water, seawater, or highly corrosive media (e.g., chloride-ion environments). Passivation treatment is required to enhance corrosion resistance.
